Kerala Style Kadala Curry (Black Chickpea Curry)
Ingredients
- • 200 g Black Chickpeas (soaked)
- • 100 g Fresh Coconut (grated)
- • 2 tbsp Coconut Oil
- • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
- • 1 tsp Chili Powder
- • 1 tbsp Coriander Powder
- • 0.5 tsp Turmeric Powder
- • 10 Curry Leaves
- • 500 ml Water
Cooking Steps

Pressure cook soaked chickpeas with 500 ml water, salt, and turmeric for 5-6 whistles.

While chickpeas cook, grind grated coconut with chili and coriander powder in a blender with a splash of water until smooth.

Heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and curry leaves until they splutter.

Add the coconut paste to the pan and sauté for 2 minutes.

Add the cooked chickpeas with their liquid to the pan, simmer for 5 minutes, and serve.
