Kerala Style Coconut Aval (Flattened Rice) Upma

Ingredients

  • 150 g thin flattened rice (poha)
  • 50 g fresh grated coconut
  • 2 g mustard seeds
  • 5 ml coconut oil
  • 1 tsp salt

Cooking Steps

Quickly rinse flattened rice in a sieve.

Heat oil in pan, add mustard seeds until spluttering.

Add coconut and salt, stir for one minute.

Toss in flattened rice, mix well, and remove from heat.

Ingredients

  • 100 g soaked and blended split yellow moong dal
  • 50 g finely chopped carrots
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 10 ml sunflower oil

Cooking Steps

Blend soaked dal into a thick, coarse paste.

Mix in chopped carrots and salt.

Flatten small portions into discs.

Pan-fry in oil until golden brown on both sides.
