Dal Tadka with Spiced Lentils

Ingredients

  • 200 g (1 cup) Yellow Split Peas
  • 600 ml (2.5 cups) Water
  • 100 g (2 medium) Tomato
  • 50 g (1 medium) Onion
  • 2 tbsp Ghee
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida

Cooking Steps

Rinse lentils and place in pressure cooker with 600 ml water, turmeric, and salt.

Cook for 4 whistles until lentils are soft.

In a separate pan, heat ghee, add cumin seeds, asafoetida, finely chopped onion, and tomato.

Sauté until soft, then mix the tempering into the cooked lentils.

Simmer for 5 minutes before serving.
