Bengali Chicken Curry (Murgir Jhol)

Ingredients

  • 500 g Chicken pieces
  • 100 g Potato, halved
  • 2 tbsp Mustard oil
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp Ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin powder
  • 1 tsp Kashmiri chili powder
  • 2 whole Green cardamoms
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 200 ml Water

Cooking Steps

Heat mustard oil in the pressure cooker and lightly fry potatoes, then remove.

Add bay leaf and cardamom to the oil, then sauté ginger-garlic paste and powdered spices.

Add chicken pieces and sear for 5 minutes.

Add potatoes, 200 ml water, and pressure cook for 2 whistles (approx 8-10 mins).

Release steam, check consistency, and simmer for 2 minutes.
