Assamese Murgir Manxo (Chicken with Lentils/Matimah)
Ingredients
- • 500 g Chicken cut into pieces
- • 100 g Split black lentils (Matimah)
- • 1 tbsp Mustard oil
- • 1 tsp Ginger paste
- • 1 tsp Garlic paste
- • 0.5 tsp Turmeric powder
- • 2 Green chilies
- • 300 ml Water
Cooking Steps

Rinse lentils and pressure cook with 200ml water for 3 whistles.

Heat mustard oil in a heavy-bottomed pot, add ginger-garlic paste and chicken.

Sauté chicken for 5 minutes until browned.

Add turmeric, salt, and green chilies.

Stir in the cooked lentils and remaining water, then simmer on the stove for 12-15 minutes until chicken is tender.
